Deep sea fishing is a form of angling involving catching game fish at great distances into the ocean water. The process happens at great distance from the shore, which makes it different from other forms of angling where the distance travelled is restricted to a few meters from the shore. Other hiding places also include artificial structures in the water. Methods used for catching fish vary with the species in question. The method used in one spot may need to be changed if not catch is made in a long time. Multiple methods may be applied too.

Game fish exploitation is governed by various laws. Laws vary by country, but remain similar in the states of the US. It is best to familiarize with some of the basic laws before going on an expedition.
