Carlsbad is a beautiful, fashionable beach-side town just north of San Diego. It's one of several quaint beach towns lined along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. It is known for it's wide sandy beaches and picturesque downtown - the quintessential SoCal California beach town.

The North County San Diego communities include Del Mar, Solana Beach and Encinitas. Each neighborhood boasts splendid views, sunsets and cooling ocean breezes.

Batiquitos Lagoon is a coastal wetland north of San Diego. It is one of the few remaining tidal wetlands on the southern California coast of the United States. The area is run by the California Department of Fish and Game as a nature reserve.

Carlsbad has some of the finest beaches in the world. South Ponto Beach stretches from La Costa Avenue to Palomar Airport Road and includes a 220 ocean-view camping sites - you're strongly advised to make your reservations well in advance. South Ponto offers restrooms complete with clean showers. The beach is wide and sandy. It's the perfect beach for romantic sunset strolls and just plain people watching.

A popular attraction is the Flower Fields. On an incredibly beautiful site overlooking the Pacific Ocean, hundreds of thousands of brilliant colored blossoms adorn the hillsides from March through May every year. The sight is so absolutely mesmerizing that tens of thousands of flower lovers tour the fields each spring to walk among the flowers.

There are dozens of lodging choices. You can find Carlsbad Inn, Marriott, Hyatt and the Tamarack Beach Hotel, plus some funky Bed and Breakfasts.

If you're looking for luxury, the Four Seasons Aviara Resort is a 225 acre Spanish-style luxury resort placed on a bluff carpeted with wildflowers overlooking the Batiquitos Lagoon. Its Arnold Palmer-signature golf course is impeccably designed and laid out around the natural rolling hills of the resort. The Aviara golf course features water traps that are actually part of Batiquitos lagoon. You will find that the clubhouse offers every amenity that serious golfers enjoy and occasional duffers feel pampered by.

If you travel to here and are looking for Carlsbad hotels, check out the Inn at Moonlight Beach for value and a romantic oceanfront feel. More intimate than other area bed and breakfasts, the Inn At Moonlight Beach features lovely ocean views with rooms and suites starting at $129.
