Many people say that when travelling abroad you are an easy target for crime, but that is really only true if you don't know how to blend in. Like all countries, there is crime, however, you really need to be educated on the culture and understand how not to like a tourist. This article contains a number of helpful tips on blending into the native culture and not looking like a tourist.

When traveling abroad, make sure to take care of your health. Check to see if there are any vaccinations that you need before heading away, pack a good supply of any prescription medications you might need, and locate a hospital or physician near your destination, in case of an emergency. Staying healthy will allow you to focus on the scenery and fun, not being sick.

There are many places when traveling where you can sample local food and not break the bank. Try locating restaurants and eateries in central markets and areas. It is recommended that you arrive fairly early as this is generally for breakfast and lunch. Most of the buildings these are in are very charming and indicative of local culture.

Don't take the whole bottle of shampoo and conditioner when going on a trip. Buy some small containers first that are sold in the travel size toiletries section of your local store. Pour some shampoo and conditioner into the small containers and take those instead. This will free up some much needed space in your duffel bag or suitcase.

To avoid angering the passenger sitting behind you on the plane, make sure to look behind you before reclining your seat. By checking that there is sufficient room to recline first, you will avoid many of the frequent mishaps that come from inconsiderate recliners, such as: spilled drinks, broken laptop screens, and bruised knees.

When traveling to many areas of the world, be aware of the nature of the plumbing. For example, toilet paper is not meant to go into the sewer pipes in much of the world. Instead, there will be a small basket next to the toilet to hold the paper.

Be sure that you know what you are eating. Foods that are foreign to your could contain ingredients that you aren't aware of, and if you aren't sure of what you are eating, you could risk allergic reaction. You don't want to be far from home suffering from an allergic reaction, especially if you have a severe reaction to allergies from what you have consumed.

When you are going to need a rental car for your trip, be sure to compare rates, assess the terms and conditions and look for any coupons and discounts that apply to certain rental agencies so that you will be best prepared to select one that suits your needs and is economical.

Always be sure to bring an extra shirt with you on the plane when you are traveling with a baby or toddler. It is easy to remember to bring one for your loved one, but you never think of one for yourself! In a confined space like the plane, you never know what kind of an accident could happen, so it is good to have something else to change into.

Bring your own pillow to achieve the best rest possible on the plane. Use the pillows that are provided to you for back support, as these are more firm and uncomfortable to lie on for long periods of time. This will aid in providing the rest that you need on your trip.

If you are traveling to another country brush up on that country's laws. Some foreign countries have laws that you might view as a little strange or not expect. As a precaution, it is always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the laws specific to the place you are visiting.

When you are traveling overseas or even to Mexico make sure that you stick to drinking bottled water or water that has been boiled. Keep in mind that it may be dangerous to drink the water in the country you are traveling to. The citizens there may be used to it but you aren't.

Ship your luggage to your destination when traveling instead of taking it with you. Sometimes you can actually save money if you ship your luggage, depending on the shipping deals you find. It also reduces a lot of the stress of traveling because you are not constantly worrying about your baggage and struggling to carry it everywhere.

Adjust to a new time zone faster by spending time in the sun. When you arrive at your destination, try to get plenty of sun exposure on your first and second days. This will help "set" your circadian rhythm to be in line with the local time zone and help you get over jet lag faster.

When traveling with kids, make sure that you plan a few activities especially for them. It will make it easier for them to make it through their tenth meal at a restaurant if they will know that the next day they will be going to an amusement park to have fun.

Plan as far in advance as you can when it comes to securing your passport to travel out of the country. Processing the paperwork can take some time, and getting the process started well in advance can give you more time to deal with snags or hang-ups that may occur.

When packing your bags before a trip, avoid putting all of your money, cards and traveler's checks in the same place. Spreading them out makes it less likely that you will lose everything in the event that you are robbed. The same goes for other valuables that you are bringing along, such as jewelry.

Always write down or print out your confirmation numbers. Make sure you are not left scrambling to find tickets or lodging at the last minute by keeping careful track of reservation confirmation numbers. If you are not given one, be sure to ask and double check that it is not necessary. Doing so ensures you have proof that you indeed have a reservation instead of having to rely on your word. A good vacation requires good planning to ensure that everyone enjoys themselves. These are just some ideas that can make your next vacation a little more trouble-free. When you plan your next excursion, do some research and plan your itinerary well. Keep some of these travel tips in mind, and enjoy your next trip.
