Los Angeles is one of the hottest vacation destinations in the country and for good reason. With great weather and plenty to do, there's something for every visitor to do. But what happens if you're here for just one day? How do you pick and choose? Well, consider the following itinerary for you one day of fun in L.A.

Los Angeles County, which houses both the vast City of Los Angeles, as well as dozens of other cities, is the most populous county in the United States. The county encompasses a vast array of geography and climate types, from the cool, coastal areas to the edge of the Mojave desert as well as mountains and huge valleys. For many travelers, a visit to Los Angeles wouldn't be complete without a trip to the ocean.

Santa Monica has long been a Mecca for tourists, and this bustling city by the sea offers plenty to do and see. Start off with breakfast at a local cafe and head to the pier and Pacific Park. You'll recognize the site as the locations for dozens of movies and TV shows. Spend the morning checking out boutiques, playing in the arcade, riding the roller coaster or enjoying the country's only solar-powered Ferris wheel. The carousel is fun for little kids, and is one of the most historic in the country.

Los Angeles has many museums and historic sites, but few date as far back in history as the Mission San Gabriel Arcangel and the Mission San Fernando Rey. The first was completed in 1771 and the second was built in 1797. Both of these missions were part of a network of missions built during the 18th century by the Spaniards. The missions began in Mexico and run along the historic El Camino Real. Both of these missions offer daily tours just about every day of the year.

Griffith Park is another great spot for visitors to Los Angeles and is certainly akin to other famous city parks such as Central Park in New York City and London's Hyde Park. This 4,300-acre park includes the Griffith Observatory and Planetarium, the Los Angeles Zoo and the Travel Town Museum, which includes historic locomotives, trolley cars, passenger cars and other train-related displays. In addition, there are miles of hiking trails, playgrounds and an abundance of great scenery.

At this point, you will definitely be need of some refreshment, so drive to Culver City and enjoy the confections at YoKuMon. This popular eatery sells a variety of sweet treats, including shaved ice, ice cream, freshly baked cookies and their most popular treat, the $2 ice cream sandwich. This isn't just a plain old ice cream sandwich either; this is a scoop of gourmet ice cream placed between two large and freshly made cookies. You can choose any combination of ice cream and cookies, and there is more than a dozen of each option.

At this point, you will want to head over to Hollywood for an evening of entertainment at the Hollywood Bowl. This outdoor amphitheatre is surrounded by the Hollywood Hills, and you can even see the famed Hollywood Sign from many of the seats. Classical concerts, jazz concerts, musical theater and modern artists from the Beatles to Pearl Jam have hit the stage at the Hollywood Bowl, so check out the offerings available during your stay.
