South Africa has been voted as one of the most popular holiday destinations on the planet with a culture as diverse as its people. We are the Rainbow Nation for a reason and a holiday trip to our sunny country should be at the top of your holiday destination itinerary! We have compiled a short list of ideas for you in the article below. Alas, we would list all our wondrous virtues if we could, but there simply isn't enough space or time to do so. Enjoy anyway...
South Africa has always been known as the Jewel of Africa and is the perfect place for your South Africa holiday. It is a large and stunning continent that has amazing wild life and lush landscapes. It also has more than 20 National Parks, Nature Reserves and World Heritage sites. South Africa has an astounding coastline that runs for over 3500 kilometres and some of the most beautiful wine estates and boasts amazing cultural landmarks and trails. There is no doubt why this country has been crowned the Jewel of Africa.
Speaking of the coast, when you visit South Africa, you have to make time to visit some of the beaches. We have 3 "Blue Flag" beaches in and around the Cape. They are some of the cleanest, whitest and most beautiful beaches in the world. The water temperature will depend on which beach you visit, so be aware of that. For example, along the West Coast, the waters are freezing but great for surfing, if you are brave enough, and in Gordon's Bay, the water is warm and pleasant to swim in. When you visit and are with a tour guide, then he or she will advise you regarding warm and cold water beaches. If you are traveling on your own, then Google will be a huge help, but then so will the Capetonians, if you ask someone, as they are very friendly and laid back.
In the center of town is the harbor, and naturally close by the harbor is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Now this place is going to consume a lot of time so be prepared to spend at least one full day or maybe even two! The kids will love the aquarium and the Ferris wheel. They will also enjoy a boat tour of the harbor and see the wild seals that play in the water in and around the waterfront. Let them watch a movie while you stroll around browsing and shopping, maybe have a snack at the oyster bar? Or instead of spending days at the V&A, spend the day soaking up some real history and maybe taking a few really beautiful photos of a true historical place, The Castle of Good Hope. Take the tour and see the dungeons. Walk the halls of where they defended the walls. An interesting fact, the Castle was virtually on the beach way back in the day. It was built in the 17th century in Cape Town and was originally located on the coast of Table Bay. The Castle is now far inland following land reclamation. When you see how far inland the castle really is, you will be awestruck at how much the lad has reclaimed from the sea. It is something quite incredible.
And then of course, there is the stunning Garden Route. You simply have to drive along this gorgeous stretch of road and stop along the way to see the many natural beauty God created. The Map of Africa is a stunning, no breathtaking sight to see. Standing on that cliff top looking out over the edge of the world, it really looks like the map of Africa! It's quite amazing to see. And just a few meters away, if you are brave enough that is, you can even jump off a cliff, in a tandem para-glider, obviously with a licensed pilot, and soar up into the clear blue skies and see the world from the perspective of eagles. Maybe take a few photos while you are up there. Further up along the route you can visit Birds of Eden, Tsitsikamma Forrest, Knysna Elephant Park, the Cango Caves, the list is endless and I wish I could list them all for you, but it's impossible!
