The Panama Community Called Pedasi

Situated in the southeastern portion of the Azuero Peninsula, located along the coast of Panama is a town named Pedasi. This village, which is part of the Pedasi District and Los Santos, has a population of 2000 people. It is known as a fishing region.

The village, though small, includes numerous shops, restaurants and supermarkets, one library, two banks and a health clinic. There is Internet, telephone and cable services available through the land. The town is known for its yearly carnivals, beautiful beaches and water activities, such as sports fishing, diving and surfing. It is nearby several national parks and preserves of Panama.

The land is known for its clean streets and beautiful Spanish colonial-inspired architecture. The town includes a primary road, plaza and several civic facilities that are surrounded by residential properties. The Pedasi reputation is positive, as it is known for being a main attraction in the Los Santos region. The village can be accessed within a five-hour drive from Panama City. There is even a small airstrip that accepts charter and private planes.

There are 12 beaches near the town. Because of this, many visitors come to the area looking for water activities. Surfing is a popular activity, particularly on Playa Venao, which is one of many beaches. Most beach areas are known for being good places for surfers to catch waves. Sports fishing is common, as many types of fish are readily available. Because the continental shelf drops by the shore, pelagic game fish are all around. Sailfish, grouper, roosterfish, amberjack and cubera snapper are other year-round fish breeds. Wahoo, yellowfin tuna and bigeye tuna are considered more seasonal.

From Playa El Arenal people can take a short boat ride over to the island wildlife refuge known as Isla Iguana. The island is surrounded by coral reef and therefore filled with beaches of white sand. Several exotic species of sea turtles, rays, reptiles, rays, fish, and birds are found in this habitat.

Pedasi townspeople are known for being friendly and laidback. They are accepting of visitors. Many local men wear folkloric hats that are black and white, and traditional sandals known as cuttaras. Women dress in traditional clothes as well, especially during big celebrations when they wear handmade pieces with very intricate designs.

In the month of February, a yearly carnival is hosted. This is a major event in the local scene. During this time, the town is split into two areas, the upper street, Calle Arriba and the lower street, Calle Abajo. Each of the areas has its own queen whose mission is it to outshine the other queen when it comes to the best display of floats, music and fireworks. Following the celebrations, the winning queen is selected based on the popular vote.

Pedasi is a small town located in the country of Panama. Although it holds a population of only 2000, they village is filled with liveliness that attracts many visitors. Many tourists visit the area to enjoy the many water activities, such as diving, fishing, surfing and more. The locals are thought to be nice people who often hold lively celebrations related to their culture.
