If you bring many valuables with you, you run the risk of losing them or having them stolen.

Get a room on the highest floor possible. Rooms on lower floors, particularly the ground floor, are at greater risk of theft due to easier access. If you can, request a hotel room that has only windows and no sliding glass doors. The doors make these rooms easier for thieves to enter.

All of your children should carry identification on them when you travel. Be sure your children carry change in case they need to make a phone call from a pay phone. Parents should carry a current photograph of each child with their weight and height noted on the back.

Make sure you research for hotels that accommodate pets if you plan on bringing your pet along. Make sure that you take the time to research a variety of different hotels in order to get the best place for your money, as well as to make sure you get a place that meets both you and your pet's needs.

It is best to take dark clothing on a trip, especially if you are bringing pants or dresses. This type of clothing will hide dirt and wrinkles, things that will naturally happen to your clothes when traveling. To lighten the overall effect of your travel ensemble, use accessories such as scarves or jewelry to introduce less somber hues.

Watch your important belongings when traveling. If you've got a purse, keep it tucked under your arm neatly. Do not use bags with zippers that provide easy access to people near you that could easily take your stuff. You should keep these things in mind when trying to find a travel bag that will be reliable for you.

When traveling by air, be sure to wear lightweight and comfortable shoes. You want the shoes to be easily removable as well. You may need to take your shoes off during security checks. Comfort is paramount. While flying and navigating airport terminals, you will spend more time sitting than walking, and therefore you do not need tremendously supportive shoes. The best shoes for flying might well be sandals or flip-flops.

You must plan ahead if you are going to fly. Many airports are located in major cities, and reaching them in congested traffic can be difficult and time consuming. Pack your bags the night before you leave on your trip. Make sure that everything is ready with plenty of time to spare. Missing your flight can be a very devastating experience.

If you are going to be traveling for a long period of time, make sure to periodically get up and stretch your legs. Sitting for too long is not only bad for your muscles, but it can cause blood clots.

Sleeping pills or tranquilizers can help you through those long red-eye flights. Lots of people aren't comfortable sleeping on planes, because the place isn't familiar, the seats are uncomfortable, and the passengers and airplane make noise. If you want a surefire way to make it through your flight, try taking a sleeping pill in order to relax, calm down and sleep through it. Don't take the medication before you go in case there are delays or problems with the plane.

Make a packing list. Start as soon as you can before your trip, that way you can add your must-have items to the list as you think of them. Creating a list is a great way to stay organized, and even if you procrastinate, it will be useful to get packing done quickly.
