People all though the whole world love holidays to Dominican Republic, to catch the tradition of music and dance that fill this country with a festive mood all year long. As folks amble thru the streets of this tiny country, they come to the realisation that music and dancing has changed into a way of living here that one can visibly see and feel in the meringue, the national dance.




This dance has puzzling origins that have varied renditions. Some will say that this dance is purely Dominican while others give the explanation it's a mix of European and African movements. Events in the Dominican Republic enclose many alternative themes which include music, political and non secular. Many of these events here are often simply for neighbors or people who celebrate different non secular days including the Day of the Dead, a day that is celebrated throughout the Caribbean, Mexico and South America.

This event is held annual in the Dominican Republic to remember any family members who are dead. Children are honoured on Nov 1st and the adults are honoured on November 2nd. These are the days that folk in several cultures believe that people who have died can visit those that they like.

Besides this festival, there are more festivals held in the Dominican Republic like a weeklong event called the Santo Domingo Merengue Holiday. The Malecon hosts this event which occurs either the week of the month of July or the 1st week of Aug. This is one of the holidays to Dominican Republic that you may not wish to miss. There will masses of time for dancing during the night to the sound of the Dominican musicians as well as enjoying the delectable cuisine.

The month of February is the most eagerly awaited holiday of the year in the Dominican Republic. Carnaval is the biggest and most colorful event that happens among all the other holidays. In Santiago, the Carnival first commenced in 1867. This is a special time when Dominicans attend parties, take part in parades, wear outfits, go dancing in the street, eat and drink and have heaps of fun with locals and tourists alike.

Each Sunday in February Carnival happens in la Vega, Monte Cristi, Santo Domingo and San Cristobal. At times folk can go over the top with these celebrations. As part of the big parties, folks get dressed in colourful costumes and masks and hit each other with inflated pig and cow bladders. In Santo Domingo, in the week of Carnival, there are multitudes of just about 100,000 people. This would be a superb time to line up one of those holidays to Dominican Republic to catch the tradition of Carnival week!

The most recognised mask of the Carnival, which is called the Diablo Cojuelo Mask, had its origins in Santo Domingo and La Vega. The custom of the Carnaval called "Puerto Plata" is that the Diablo Cojuelo, or horned devil, lashes out at all who participate in this event with an inflated cow bladder so as to purge the sins from the audience.

There are different celebrations that happen all year long in the country of the Dominican Republic. Tourists are always warmly welcomed to take part in these holidays. This Caribbean nation is famous for its music and colourful holidays that attract visitors from every part of the world.
