The person trying to renew one will need to send theirs in with an application or form, which can one can usually find online. Other factors may also be involved, making it important to research any other requirements ahead of time.

Citizenship

As an example of certain mail-in requirements within the United States, any expired documentation will need to have been issued within the last 15 years. The same documentation will also have to be something that was issued to someone when they 16 years of age or order during the time that they initially received it.

Changed Name

Those who plan to mail in their application and other items will also need to ensure that their name is the same since the time their original document was issued. Legal documents will need to be available in order to prove the identity of a person who has had their name changed since their original document was made. For instance, if an individual were to get married after their original passport had been issued, they would need to have a legal marriage license on record.

You can usually locate the correct address to mail your documents to by looking online. Individuals living in the United States, for instance, generally need to send their items to the National Passport Processing Center, which is in Pennsylvania.

If you don't meet the necessary requirements in order to send your items through the mail or would prefer to do things in person, you will likely need a different form in order to do this. For example, those in the United States generally have to fill out a DS-11 form, which is something that will need to be signed in person rather than beforehand.

Photo ID

Generally, those applying for up-to-date documentation will also need to bring their government-issued photo ID. They may also need to bring a photocopy of the ID. Individuals will also want to have two, appropriately sized photos. Evidence of citizenship will be needed as well such as a birth certificate. You can often find local places to renew your document such as through a number of related agencies or acceptance facilities.
