Many medical insurance plans do not allow insurance cover outside US borders and hence it is necessary to take Travel insurance policy cover which provides policy cover even outside the United States. Evacuation is applicable when injured travelers requires urgent medical attention to any nearest hospital or in worst cases send them back to their home country.

Travel insurance are of 2 types, 1) Trip cancellation Insurance & 2) Travel Health Insurance. US citizens can apply for both of the plans while non US citizens can apply only for Travel Health Insurance plan.

The main difference between both the plans is that in case of Trip cancellation insurance policy, plan covers medical expenses, injured travelers evacuation to their home nation, reimbursement of a cancelled trip whereas Travel Health Insurance covers all of these expect reimbursement expenses of a cancelled trip.

For international travel insurance both US and non US residents can avail medical expenses from $60,000 upto $1 million, pre existing sickness expense limit upto $20,000 for US citizens and for non US citizens the limit is $3,000 and upto $300,000 for emergency evacuation of a traveler.

Lets us compare the premium for both the plans. For a US traveler whose age is 25 years, premium for Trip cancellation Insurance plan will be $72 for $2,000 trip expenses and valid for 1 month.
