Celebrating Christmas time in The Canary Islands

Although it might be difficult to envision a warm Christmas by the beach -- without the stereotypical snow and Christmas decor from home. The Canary Islands offer plenty of celebrations and activities to keep you entertained during the holiday season. With plenty of fantastic offers on flights and places to stay, there's no reason not to embark on an exotic escape away this year.

However, if you like your holidays traditional, remember that you don't have to be in Britain to indulge in a slap-up Christmas meal. There are plenty of places in the islands to pick up your own turkey, or splash out on a Christmas lunch for the whole family at one of the many restaurants onsite.

Here in the UK, things tend to close down around the main days of the holiday forcing you to camp inside watching TV and going stir-crazy. If you are lucky enough to be holidaying in the Canaries, as it is the busiest time of the year, you will be able to partake in pretty much any activity you like. So, if you so wish you can spend Christmas day swimming with dolphins, climbing volcanoes or taking a ride in a glass bottomed boat to see how the underwater creatures like to spend their December 25th.

Another appealing aspect of celebrating Christmas in Spain is joining in in their cultural traditions. With plenty of carnivals and firework displays on hand, you'll also want to check out the Three King processsions, indicative of the Spanish culture. Similarly, if you are there for New Years Eve, you should partake in the tradition of eating a grape for every chime of the clock up until midnight - followed by copious amounts of cava of course!

Whether all you want is an escape from the Christmas madness back home, a bit of winter sun and rest and relaxation by the pool or a glimpse into how the Spanish celebrate everyone's favourite time of year, the Canary Islands are a great option and the locals will welcome you with open arms.
