Top Places to Visit on a Florida Vacation

Many people think a Florida vacation is just a trip to Disney World or the beach and this is a misconception that needs changing. While Disney does encompass a great deal of area with its theme parks in Orlando, it can seem as though there is nothing else to do. There is so much more to Florida than this popular attraction and some spots are definite "must sees" for families and singles alike.

While Disney does hold the title for most visited place in Florida, SeaWorld continues to be a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. Any Florida vacation should have at least one visit to this iconic location where there is every type of marine life imaginable. But do not stop there, make sure to check out Discovery Cove that boasts coral reefs, dolphin adventures and a slow moving river. Go snorkeling, interact with the dolphins, or just enjoy the scenery floating on the river.

Make a plan to stay away from the everyday attractions and visit something just a bit off the beaten path on Florida. Gatorland is the perfect spot and offers a great deal of fun for all. Check out the petting zoo or ride the train around the park after looking at the wide variety of 'gators and crocs.

For those who are into things that are not on the beaten path, Ripley's Believe it or Not! Odditorium is the perfect spot. There is a collection of weird and crazy items from around the world that cannot be seen anywhere else. The collection of shrunken heads from Ecuador is one of the displays that can be viewed along with a wide variety of other oddities.

If it is preferred to have a more educational experience while on vacation, then a trip to the Orlando Science Center is in order. This is great for both the children and the grownups that can learn right alongside the younger ones. Not only are there many different interactive displays, but there is also an IMAX theater as well as a planetarium.

Choosing a vacation destination in the winter is not difficult when there is so much to do on any Florida vacation. If you want to skip the normal Disney World lines and crowds, try the attractions that are off the beaten path. The weather is always nice, even during the darkest part of winter, so you can leave the parkas at home. Let your friends enjoy their fireplaces, pack up the kids, and head to Florida to warm up this winter.
