6 Unusual Sunsets

I normally hate lists and especially "top 6, top 5 etc." but I'm as hypocritical as everyone else so here goes... These are the latest craze on websites so I will be compiling a series of lists now as well, starting with sunsets. Sunsets are amazing! I love them and I love being in different places to view them. Here are 6 of the most random and unusual sunsets I've witnessed (in no particular order, and in no way the best, just 6 unusual ones!):

1. Sunset in Casapueblo, URUGUAY:

Of all the places I have watched the sun go down, Casapueblo has to rank highest. This amazing seafront townhouse is a museum and an experience in itself, without the added bonus that it has the best view of the sunset you could ever imagine. Really it is incredible. From Punta del Este get a bus out to Punta Ballena (you will have to ask the driver to stop, otherwise you will end up in Maldonado or Montevideo). Once you get out at Punta Ballena, you will realise it is basically a small beach resort. Follow the signs and the path down the coast until you reach Casapueblo. It's about a 2 kilometre walk to the entrance to Casapueblo itself. It's basically an elaborate house which is nicely built and nestled into the hills on the Uruguayan south coast. Pay your entrance fee, enjoy the museum then grab a seat on the balcony for the best sunset you will ever see. Let them supply you with beer, music, food and an incredible ambiance as you watch the hot ball sink over the horizon.

2. Sunset at Bruny Island, Tasmania, AUSTRALIA:

Bruny Island is not the most southern Australian island, but it's one of them. It's a marvellous little remote island, reached by ferry from Kettering in mainland Tasmania. Get yourself up to "The Neck" for sunset. Apart from wallabies and rabbits, you may be the only person in sight. A peaceful sunset in contrast to the lively bar at Casapueblo. Bring a coat! As soon as that hot sphere fades it's windy and chilly, especially in winter!

3. Sunset in Boscombe, Bournemouth, ENGLAND:

I spent six years living in Bournemouth yet don't always write about it, so here it is getting some publicity in the form of a place on my top six random sunsets. While I worked away down by the beach, far to the west the sun was setting, taking with it the lighting over the splendid beaches and being replaced by darkness, which is when Bournemouth comes alive. It may be best remembered for a beach and party town, but believe me, get yourself a cocktail and watch the sunset by Bournemouth beach. It's glorious!

4. Sunset from The Fortress in Danxiashan, Guangdong, CHINA:

China is graced with the most amazing countryside, villages, mountains and sunsets. There are so many places to watch the hot ball fade, but I strongly recommend the hike and climb to the top of The Fortress (near Penis Rock ) where you gather on the steep steps to watch the sun go down behind the mountains in the north of Guangdong province. This is well off the beaten track for travellers, I was the only non-Asian in the region for a couple of days, but well worth it!!

5. Sunset on Kenting Beach, TAIWAN:

Taiwan has enough magic to keep you entertained for a lifetime. Our trip to Kenting on the south coast was amazing. Late afternoon myself and my travel buddy cracked open a tin of beer, went for a splash in the waves and watched the sun sink away beyond us from a quiet beach. Total heaven.

6. Sunset by Lam Tin, HONG KONG:

Another entry for Asia and an unusual one, but from the east side of Kowloon at Hong Kong you can see a magnificent sunset view of the skyscrapers of Hong Kong island. There is a non deliberate viewing platform within a 10 minute walk of Lam Tin MTR station. Head there before the hot ball fades and you'll catch an immense view of this beautiful city skyline against a changing sky!

So there you go - 6 random unusual places to watch the sun go down. I can't wait for my next sunset viewing. An incredible thing to see while travelling around.
