Palm Spring's Hippest Night Spot

The iconic Melvyn's Restaurant, located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs is still swinging like the great days of the "Rat Pack". In the past few months, there has been a tremendous increase of a younger crowd visiting Melvyn's at night. What they are discovering is the same thing that made Melvyn's a stylish hangout for celebrities 30 years ago - it's Cool!

In my recent visits to this long time Palm Springs landmark I have seen multiple Grammy Award winning Singer/Songwriter Norah Jones, Tori Spelling and her husband, Dean McDermott, "Dancing with the Stars" winner, Kym Johnson, Aidan Quinn and Marcia Gay, Allen Cummings, as well as long time regulars, Richard Anderson aka "Oscar Goldman from The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman", and from the World of sports, Basketball Superstar, Bill Walton, just to name a few.

Melvyn's has long ago been recognized as one of the "Ten Best" by Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Melvyn's has always attracted the glamor crowd and their celebrity friends. Being a local who loves to hang at this place, the fact that a whole new young generation of modern sophisticates are discovering this very unique and special place to dine and dance the night away means that this is still one of the "hippest" places in town.

Today this hot spot is filled with young beautiful people who are lounging around with their smartphones burning up the social media airwaves posting to their Facebook wall pictures shot in the restaurant and on the hotel grounds tweeting their friends about Melvyn's.

At a recent wedding ceremony, the crowd of beautiful people looked more like a Hollywood crowd than one from desert. The boss, Mel Haber. likes to say that "We attract guests from all over the World who come here to get away from the 'norm' and to feel like a celebrity, if only for a brief time." and based upon what I saw on my last visit, it is hard to argue.

It is not just tourists that frequent this landmark. On a typical day you can't help but run into the regulars, who consist of a well seasoned crowd that always has a story to tell about the 'Rat Pack' or the celebrities they had a chance to meet at their favorite haunt. However, it is the younger crowd that has this place hopping till all hours of the night.

Melvyn's Restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner and its bar and lounge come alive every evening starting around 8p.m. If, however, you want to dance the night away, you should get there no later than 10 p.m. as the dance floor is packed by then with some of the most beautiful people you will ever see.
