The sheer size of the country of Peru means there are many options for vacations to Peru. You can find activities and locations that would satisfy your need for something different in a holiday. Tourists today can hike some of the remaining portions kept in passable condition through the efforts of the Peruvian government. Travel over these routes is strictly controlled and regulated, so if you want this experience, you will need to book in advance.

One of the most stunning example of Spanish architecture is in the City of Lima. Just spending time in Lima is enough vacation for many visitors. The Monastery and Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi consists of a church and monastery it also contains a library with around 25,000 volumes and catacombs. The architectural style is Spanish Baroque.

Preparing for a visit to the area of Lake Titicaca requires advance preparation. Otherwise, the altitude of this lake can lead to symptoms of altitude sickness. This record books say that this is the highest navigable body of water in South America. It is located on the Peruvian and Bolivian border. At 12K in elevation, it requires a slow acclimation to visit this part of the country.

A different type of physical fitness is needed when you want to do some mountain bike treks. Some travelers begin at Cusco and travel to Puerto Maldonado using a mountain bike. This type of exertion requires athletic stamina and is not for a person who hasn't prepared physically.

Another type of trek is riding one of the amazing Peruvian Pasos horses. These animals are called Cadillac due to their smooth gait and comfortable ride. You could spend hours in the saddle and not be saddle sore. This characteristic makes them perfect for riding in the mountains of Peru.
